CENTERSTAGE! 2009 Finale Night: SUCCESS!

It was a night full of beautiful voices, exhilarating performances and deafening screams. The 3-hour long, first ever singing concert cum competition in Dunman High showcased sixteen performers who dared to step up to the challenge to pursue their dreams. Their captivating voices and talented performances contributed to a great show and made CENTERSTAGE! 2009 a blast!

The panel of judges made their verdicts, and YOU have made your voices heard. Finally, a month after registrations first commenced, and months after CENTERSTAGE! 2009 first came into play, here are the results:

Thanks to all of you for putting so much effort into preparing for CENTERSTAGE!2009 :) your enthusiasism has heartened us quite abit! Hope you contestants enjoyed yourselves...and...NO STRESS! It's all about the experience. You guys prepared and presented well and should be proud of yourselves for stepping up to join DHS's first such competition. Finale Night Tickets

Hi blog viewers,
The finale night is a competition cum concert, which will be held on 14 August, Friday, at 700pm. There will be sneaks e.g. audition clips from 630++pm onwards, so be punctual!
The ticket price is 7 dollars, and YOUR VOTE will contribute to 30% of the total score for the finalists. Venue is DHS's Performing Arts Centre.
More details of the programme will be posted soon.

Though ticket sales officially start on 27 July, you may now pre-order tickets for CENTERSTAGE! 2009 finale night by simply sending your order to musicsociety.centerstage2009@gmail.com .

Please bring the fees along with you on your audition day. Note that you will be refused entry if you fail to do so; we have a list!

Remember...the deadline for registration is 17th July! Booths will be set up in the canteen on 16th and 17th for form and PAYMENT collection. :)

Auditions is on 29th and 31th...so it's not too late to practice or something! It's all for the name of fun, experience and enjoyment.

1) Registered contestants will be given specific timeslots for auditions. They may be sms'ed to you personally, or posted on the blog itself. Whichever the case, please check the blog frequently for updates!

2) Also, there is an addition of 2 judges.

Also, please be informed about the following details regarding our finale night.

Date: 14 August 2009, Friday
Time: 1900 (There will be NO DELAY. Please arrive earlier for sneak footages)
Venue: PAC
Ticket Prices: $7

Voting system: Audience votes 30%; 70% is judges

Mode of voting: SMS*

*Each person is only entitled to vote ONCE per CATEGORY. There are FOUR CATEGORIES.

Ticket sales start from 27th July. Sales booths will be set up on 6-7 August. A concert NOT TO BE MISSED. DHS's FIRST POP/ROCK concert staging DHS's OWN TALENTS! Tickets on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Remember! The moment you enter the audition room/stage, the 'show' has started. This means you have to take into consideration your appearance, your poise, use of language etc! Very important to leave a good first impression! Also, every action counts! Even your standing posture, or the way you greet the judges for example. It's all about showmanship!

For those who went for the workshop, you guys will probably know Randy's character and his expectations. And yes. He will be a judge for finale night! As for the auditions, the judges are mainly MEP teachers, so you guys might probably want to talk to them or something? Maybe just see what their focuses are and stuff :) Or maybe check out the MEP performance criteria and rubrics to see what they have judging all these years!

but fret not! we will be briefing them about OUR criterias! but..just play safe! :D

1) EPiSTAGE WORKSHOP

FREE MUSIC WORKSHOP!

Organised by EPiSTAGE Academy for ALL interested students in DHS and possible participants of CENTERSTAGE! 2009. Conducted by industry professionals and producers.

Workshop Details:

Date: 1 June (Monday)
Time: 9.45am to 12pm
Location: Dunman High School
Open to EVERYONE, not just CENTERSTAGE! 2009 participants

Workshop Overview:

STAGE 1

Brief introduction about CENTERSTAGE! 2009, explanation of competition details and marking rubrics.
Competition Preparation and how to present yourself
How to put up an engaging performance

STAGE 2

Students can then choose to attend “Solo and Singers” or “Instruments and Band” when the workshop splits into the 2 groups

i) Solo and Singers – Mainly for singers

Warming-up Techniques
Vocal styling (in R&B, Pop, Jazz, etc)
Masterclass - Participants can volunteer to be chosen to sing to be coach and improve their singing

ii) Instruments and Band (will only proceed if there are enough people)
-Mainly for instrument players or keen to pick up a contemporary instrument-

Working as a band
Delivery
Techniques
Rhythm
Band Dynamics
Grooving
Choosing the right song
Etc...

There may also be a short combined demonstration by the trainers at the end!

Forms will be passed to your class chairpersons. If interested, please fill up on the form, your name and your contact number. Thank you.

2) Competition Updates

Here are the latest regulations as set across CENTERSTAGE! 2009 board:

Participants can join a maximum of 2 categories (i.e. solo-solo, group-group, solo-group)
Music sung is limited to English and Chinese (Diction and lyrics is a major component of music itself)
Voice cancellation will be provided for auditions and finals (if applicable). But contestants have to clearly indicate song titles and singers on registration forms.
Pre-auditions Details: If anyone is unavailable on 29th, 31th of July, and is interested in joining the competition, please contact Jun Hao to make necessary arrangements

Note that:

There will be no returning of registration fee.
Date of release of Audition results: 2 August 2009 (Results on the blog)
